A land of plenty and a paradise in one

Guests will be able to enjoy all the fruits of this magnificent island paradise. In addition to growing the best vegetables, Ufnau also has grapevines. Here, the pinot noir and Räuschling varieties grow and thrive. The abbey also has vineyards in Leutschen SZ, Weiningen ZH and Unterengstringen ZH. The abbey winery produces excellent wines, which can of course be found on our wine list.

Island and abbey wine

The island restaurant has more than half a dozen wines from the abbey winery on its wine list. We were even allowed to participate in the making of some of the wines. And we hope that the results will delight you, our dear guests. We can recommend the Vivus Rosé Brut, a sparkling wine made according to the traditional method. But, of course, we are also proud of the other varieties. We were fortunate enough to be able to have the artist and sprayer Harald Naegeli design the bottles.

Through his work, the “Sprayer of Zurich” has elicited both head shaking and nodding in equal measure. His motifs comment on the environment in which they appear. Some people do not appreciate his art, but we have always regarded his drawings highly. We are therefore very pleased that Harald Naegeli has agreed to design the bottle labels of the island wines. His motifs “danse macabre” and “devil” are reminiscent of life and the afterworld. “Flamingo,” “running fish” and “Venus” in turn refer to Mother Nature and the magic creations she produces. By the way, Naegeli has decided to donate his remuneration for the project to an animal welfare organization. Thanks to everyone involved!
