A blessed piece of earth
Islands have always been destinations for pleasure seekers to relax and enjoy all that life has to offer. This is especially true in a country where islands are scarce. Ufnau Island stands out due to its size of eleven hectares. Located in upper Lake Zurich, the island has always had a magical allure for its visitors. And that includes us as well as our guests.
Iconic island since day one
Ufnau Island has been used as a place of worship since as far back as the Gallo-Roman period. In the early Middle Ages, the island belonged to Säckingen Abbey and later came into the possession of Einsiedeln Abbey, which still controls Ufnau to this day. The island is home to two religious buildings: the chapel of St. Martin and the church of St. Peter and Paul. The abbey is also responsible for the agricultural use of the island, which includes a livestock pasture and grapevines.
A first-class natural paradise
Ufnau Island hardly has any development on it, and even from far away it looks mostly green. Here, nature is in the spotlight. And that’s how it should stay. Which is why it is a matter of course that we prepare our dishes with local and regional ingredients. What could be better than serving fish straight from Lake Zurich, vegetables grown on the nearby shore and regional meat?
An island of culture with Art Ufnau
The island of Ufnau captivates visitors with its unique natural beauty. Artists in particular are attracted to this island paradise. This has resulted in Art Ufnau, an art platform with temporary art exhibitions and events that focus on nature, silence, spirituality and encounters.
